Preparing for Possible Cuts to Medicaid Home and Community-based Waiver Services
When: first at 2:00-3:30 PM, then again at 6:00-7:30 PM Eastern, Wednesday, March 26, 2025
Where: Zoom video conference
Medicaid Waivers pay for many supports and services individuals with disabilities and their families receive in their homes and communities. Lately, there has been much discussion about whether or not federal Medicaid Waiver Funding should be cut. This webinar will answer three questions:
- What kinds of home and community-based services are now funded by Medicaid waivers?
- How will individuals with disabilities and their families be affected if Medicaid funds are cut?
- What can YOU do to advocate that Medicaid funding continues?
The same information will be given during the afternoon and evening sessions so you only need to register for one. There will be time for discussion and Q&A at the end of each session, too.
About the presenters
Formally retired but back at the University of Connecticut UCEDD part-time, Dr. Linda Rammler has 50 years of experience in the field of disabilities. Her current projects include providing technical assistance to parents and caregivers, as well as school and agency staff, on many topics related to inclusive education and inclusive community living. She is also the volunteer advisor and staff support to People First of Connecticut. Linda’s career involved working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, many of whom had challenging behaviors, and their care givers. Unsupported, these behaviors could easily have resulted in injury to the individual or staff and often led to the use of restraints or other punishments which were ineffective and sometimes harmful. Linda has taught caregivers and others with varying degrees of education and experiences about how to build relationships with individuals and minimize poor outcomes through good detective work and positive approaches. She also published articles on transition and employment of individuals with disabilities and complied a White Paper for the UCEDD calling for the elimination of punitive practices in schools and adult services settings. Linda is Vice-President of TASH New England.
Lisa D. Beaudoin is a mom, a disability policy and nonprofit professional. She is the former Executive Director of ABLE NH where she successfully led a number of legislative and regulatory wins advancing equity for people with disabilities, including leading the disability advocacy community’s role in securing an adult dental Medicaid benefit and its funding in New Hampshire. Not just a policy wonk, Ms. Beaudoin believes in the credo “nothing about us without us,” fueling her passion to teach community organizing skills. She was the 2021 recipient of the President’s Annual Outstanding Women of New Hampshire Award and is the founder of Strategies for Disability Equity, LLC. Currently, Ms. Beaudoin is writing a book on ableism and is the half-time Executive Director of the New Hampshire Council of Churches.
