Join Bekah Nesbitt, Assistive Technology Coordinator for Pennsylvania’s Assistive Technology Act (AT Act) Program, TechOWL, to learn about local and free AT resources, how AT plays a pivotal role in accessibility, and ways AT can help someone become or stay independent.

Learning Objectives

Participant will:

  • Be able to describe TechOWL’s mission, services, and statewide impact, and identify how its programs connect people with the assistive technology they need.
  • Be able to explain how assistive technology fosters autonomy, independence, and self‑determination across different environments, including communication, mobility, learning, and daily living.
  • Be able to apply the social model of disability to AT delivery by recognizing environmental and systemic barriers, and by identifying inclusive practices that promote equitable access to technology.

 

About the Presenter

Behind her is the view from the Rachel Carson bridge down the Allegheny River to the yellow Andy Warhol bridge.Bekah Nesbitt is an Assistive Technology Coordinator for TechOWL, Pennsylvania’s Assistive Technology Act Program. Through her employment at CLASS, she promotes accessibility and assistive technology solutions across seven counties in and around the Pittsburgh Area. She is a certified Speech Language Pathologist, as well as a Direct Support Professional, and Adjunct Faculty at The University of Pittsburgh’s School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences.
