TASH hosted the inaugural Outstanding Leadership in Disability Law Award Dinner & Symposium on Wednesday, June 14th in Washington, DC, and it was a huge success! The day began with a half-day symposium on the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, and included panel discussions of PARC v. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Endrew F. v. Douglas County. Panelists brought several perspectives to the history and the future of inclusive education, and everyone enjoyed a short film on inclusion by Dan Habib. The symposium was a powerful and engaging experience for all participants.
Following the symposium, TASH hosted a reception and dinner to honor Thomas K. Gilhool, a pioneer in the field of disability law. Tom has been the lead attorney in precedent-setting lawsuits on behalf of people with disabilities, including cases he argued before the Supreme Court. The dinner was a special gathering that included Tom and his family, and many people who know and respect Tom for all he has done in his career for people with disabilities. Eve Hill, partner at Brown Goldstein & Levy and former Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights at the U.S. Department of Justice, served as keynote speaker and honored Tom beautifully with her speech. It was a beautiful celebration, and TASH is honored to have hosted this event to honor Tom and his career accomplishments in the disability field.
