Welcome Lizya-Beth, Our 2016 Summer Intern!

Lizya headshotLizya-Beth du Plessis is a senior at the University of California, Berkeley majoring in English and minoring in Global Poverty and Practice. She has an older sister with an intellectual disability, and her love and relationship with her sister is where her passion for people with disabilities stems from. Her frustration with a system of inequity has inspired her to learn more about what she can do to break the cycle of complacency. Through her program at UC Berkeley, she has spent the last year studying the poverty, inequality, and discrimination that people with disabilities face on a daily basis. While studying these things, however, she has become inspired by the stories found in the self-advocacy movement, and is excited to be spending her summer absorbing all she can from TASH. She hopes to offer whatever creativity and skill she can to further TASH’s mission. Welcome Lizya-Beth!
