SUCCEED Postsecondary Program Seeks Director

SUCCEED is a two year, residential postsecondary program for students age 18 – 25 years with intellectual and developmental disabilities. SUCCEED is grounded in an individualized and person centered approach that promotes independence and self-determination. SUCCEED students live on-campus in residential housing, engage in academic classes, participate in vocational experiences on- and off-campus, and are fully included in campus and residential life. Program participants can earn a two year Chancellor’s Certificate by completing required coursework and activities defined by SUCCEED. During its first year, the high quality of the program was recognized when SUCCEED was awarded the 2013 Inclusion Award by the Governor’s Council on Disabilities.

We seek a dynamic director to lead SUCCEED to the next level of development.

Responsibilities

To direct the academic, programmatic, financial, operational, quality control, growth, and personnel activities of the SUCCEED Program.

Characteristic Duties

Program Planning, Management, and Evaluation
• Oversee the planning, management, and evaluation of the SUCCEED program
• Administer day-to-day operations of the SUCCEED Program, including fiscal management of the program
• To supervise professional, instructional, and support staff, including annual performance evaluations
• Maintain quality academic and programmatic standards, ensuring the highest quality of learning, vocational experiences, and campus residential life
• Direct the recruitment, application, admission, and registration of students for the SUCCEED program
• Organize/lead person centered planning meetings
• Oversee/participate in/extend research related to postsecondary education
• Manage existing grants and seek new funding to support the program
• Actively promote SUCCEED by presenting to various community agencies, organizations, and schools
• Communicate in a responsive manner to students, parents, and other constituents
• Communicate regularly with high schools, agency partners, advisory groups, and other affiliated entities
• Oversee the annual updating of a SUCCEED procedural manual, student handbook, and instructor handbook
• Prepare periodic reports for the university and outside organizations
• Be familiar with, and observe, university policies and procedures
• Conduct regular meetings of the SUCCEED advisory groups and the SUCCEED Planning Team
• Meet regularly with the Associate Dean, College of Arts & Sciences

Human Resources
• Recruit instructors to deliver course content, negotiate instructor pay
• Recruit program staff

Financial Planning and Development
• Manage the SUCCEED budget
• Oversee existing grants; seek new funding to support the program

Qualifications

Education
• Master’s degree in Education or related field from an accredited institution of higher education is required
• Earned doctorate preferred

Experience
• Two years of management experience in an academic setting is required
• Two years of direct experience in special education at the secondary level, post-secondary level, or with an agency that provides support/services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is required
• Experience organizing/leading person centered planning meetings is required
• Demonstrated record of seeking and administering grants is required
• Experience in family support preferred
• Experience developing or administering person centered and individualized programs for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities preferred

Proficiency and Skill Set
• Working knowledge of MS Word required
• High level of organizational skills required
• High level of communication skills required since the director will meet regularly with a wide variety of people including: program participants, parents, and recruits; nonprofit partners; government organizations; funders; university and secondary school faculty and administrators; program instructors; and advisory board members
