Message from the Executive Director

A portrait of Michael Brogioli. He has high silver hair parted to one side. He is wearing an open collared shirt and a black blazer. The background is a blue speckled photographer's backdrop.Policy advocacy is front and center at this time of year and especially as we look forward to the annual Disability Policy Seminar (DPS), March 23–24, in Washington, DC. TASH is once again a partner organization of the DPS, alongside The Arc, Autism Society, American Association on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities, Association of University Centers on Disabilities, Caring Across Generations, Disability Belongs, National Alliance for Direct Support Professionals, United Cerebral Palsy, and Self Advocates Becoming Empowered.

Attendees will hear from policy experts from the advocacy community and Congress on Medicaid, Social Security, Education, the direct support workforce and other issues; the DPS includes a Hill Day on March 24, when attendees as part of their State Teams will visit Congressional offices. Please note that online registration ends on March 13 (with an option to register on-site during the event). I hope many of you can come to Washington in March as we join our allies to continue to make our voices heard.

TASH also looks forward to starting up a “Medicaid Advocacy Project” next month, thanks to the generous support of the WITH Foundation, to engage individuals with disabilities and allies as we navigate a new and very challenging landscape in the months ahead. More information is to come.

In the meantime, please consider participating in a National Call Day on March 5th to let Congressional offices know our opposition to moving IDEA programs out of the U.S. Department of Education. You can find more information and a call script in this link. Lastly, you can find additional policy and advocacy information and resources at TASH’s Advocacy Tools & Resources page.

With appreciation,

Michael Brogioli

Charting the Course to Employment Success With Family Supports and Cross-System Partnerships

Employment is a core component of a good life. The University of Missouri-Kansas City, Institute for Human Development’s Charting the LifeCourse framework helps individuals and families of all abilities and ages articulate a vision for a good life, identify needed supports, and navigate pathways to achieve the lives they want to live. The framework recognizes that people need different supports at different life stages and that no single service system can meet all needs. This webinar explores how family engagement and cross-system approaches can help remove barriers to achieving meaningful employment outcomes for people with disabilities across the lifespan. Watch it as a recording here.
