Message from the Executive Director

There is so much at stake in this election and every vote counts, so please make your voice heard by voting.

TASH is also holding an election for its Board of Directors. This year, three Board positions will be filled. All TASH members are eligible to vote; please check your email for reminders about the TASH election from info@tash.org that include a link to the ballot. Thank you in advance to all TASH members who participate in the 2024 Board election. Voting closes at 12:00 midnight Eastern Time on November 5.

I hope to see many of you at the 2024 TASH Conference in New Orleans. If you haven’t registered yet, please visit tash.org/2024TASH. This year’s Conference will feature 160 breakout sessions, 20 Day One workshops and two outstanding General Session panels, plus numerous networking opportunities, just steps away from the French Quarter in “the Big Easy” where we’ll “let the good times roll.”

American Institute for Research Study on Participatory Research

the logo of the American Institutes for ResearchThe National Institute on Disability, Independent Living, and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) is partnering with the American Institutes for Research (AIR) to conduct research to increase understanding about the problems people with intellectual and developmental disabilities face when participating in virtual research opportunities. The AIR team will be conducting 30-minute-long interviews at the 2024 TASH Conference to learn more about your experiences. If you’re interested in participating, please complete the screener available via this link or by scanning the QR code on our flyer. You can also watch a video explaining the project further. The President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities Report to the President

Tia Nelis was present for the President’s Committee for People with Intellectual Disabilities (PCIPD) as it delivered its latest report, “Advancing Independence and Community Integration for All: Supporting Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities Through High-Quality Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS),” to President Biden. The Role of American Job Centers in Promoting Access to Good Jobs for All

In support of this year’s National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), we recognize the role of the American Job Center (AJC) Network. This webinar spotlights four American Job Centers located in New York and Colorado. Presenters provide insights on the services the AJCs provide, share a roadmap for accessing AJC services, discuss the critical role of partnerships in service delivery, and highlight the creative integration of universal design principles to ensure access for all customers using AJC services. Debunking Myths About Working and the Loss of Benefits

Study: Lived Experiences of
Direct Support Professionals

The cover of the reportThis study aims to gain insight into New York State-based DSPs’ experiences and identify factors impacting DSPs’ quality of life. The data may support efforts to mitigate the crisis-level shortage of DSPs by providing the information needed to refine strategies to attract, recruit, and retain members of this critically important workforce. An end goal is to contribute to a healthier, more rewarding work environment that can improve DSPs’ financial, social, and overall well-being. Read the full report here.
