October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month, or “NDEAM”. NDEAM’s theme this year is “Access to Good Jobs for All”, and this October serves as a focal point to reaffirm our commitment to inclusion in workplaces and the economy as a whole. TASH joins are partners and allies in celebrating workers with disabilities.

TASH will of course continue to advocate for competitive, integrated employment (CIE) every month of the year. Our position statement on CIE can be found here and our Employment Community of Practice which is open to TASH members, meets regularly to share best practices and resources, advocate for progressive employment policies and honor champions who advance employment for people with disabilities. TASH members can learn more and sign up here.

In honor of NDEAM, the Disability Employment Technical Assistance Center (DETAC), which TASH is a key partner on, will host a webinar on October 8 on The Role of American Job Centers (AJCs) in Promoting Access to Good Jobs for All. More details can be found below in this newsletter and from the webinar registration page.

2024 TASH Conference News

General Session 1 will be Dr. Philip Wilson, Director of the Human Development Center, the Louisiana UCEDD, moderating a panel on improvements to childcare and K-12 education in the State of Louisiana.
General Session 2, “Inclusion Around the World”, will be an international panel discussing global efforts to advance inclusion.

On September 11^th TASH honored the lifetime of accomplishment of Steven J. Schwartz at our eighth annual Outstanding Leadership in Disability Law Symposium and Award Celebration. The Cal-TASH 2025 Conference Call for Proposals is open now through November 15, 2024. The Cal-TASH 2025 Conference will be held March 28-29, 2025 at the Los Angeles Marriott Burbank Airport.

The Role of American Job Centers (AJCs) in Promoting Access to Good Jobs for All
3:00–4:30 PM ET, Tuesday, October 8, 2024

This webinar will spotlight four American Job Centers (AJCs) located in New York and Colorado. Panel presenters will provide insights on the services the AJCs provide, share a roadmap for accessing AJC services, discuss the role of partnerships in service delivery, and highlight the creative integration of universal design principles to ensure meaningful access to all customers using AJC services. The Impact of Ableism on Disability Employment

In DETAC’s latest podcast, we talk with Theo Braddy, the Executive Director of the National Council on Independent Living (NCIL) about the impact of ableism on disability employment.
