TASH Opposes the Administration’s Efforts to Dismantle the Department of Education

On March 20, 2025, President Trump signed an Executive Order, “Improving Education Outcomes by Empowering Parents, States, and Communities“, that attempts to dismantle the Department of Education.

TASH strongly opposes the Administration’s latest effort to dismantle the Department of Education, which requires an act of Congress.

The Department of Education and its Office of Civil Rights play a critical role in enforcing and providing oversight to the Individual with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) to ensure that students with disabilities have access to quality outcomes-base, public education and to protect their rights and prevent discrimination. The Administration’s efforts to shut down the Department of Education will harm students with disabilities, their families and communities.
