TCNJ Department of Special Education Seeks Assistant Professor, Tenure-Track Position

The Department of Special Education, Language and Literacy seeks dynamic candidates for an Assistant Professor, tenure-track position commencing August 2015. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in Special Education, scholarship, service, and advisement. Candidates with a strong interest in teaching and a commitment to working collaboratively with schools, community agencies, and faculty colleagues are encouraged to apply.

The College of New Jersey is a highly selective, comprehensive, residential institution that has earned national recognition for its commitment to excellence. Located in suburban Ewing Township, NJ, the College enrolls approximately 5,800 undergraduate and 900 graduate students. The Department of Special Education, Language and Literacy is recognized in the State of New Jersey for its distinguished record in mentoring exceptional teachers. The Department is comprised of a vibrant faculty with diverse interests and programs in Special Education, Deaf Education, TESL, and Reading. Its offerings in Special Education include a 5-year B.A./M.A.T. program, 4 masters-level programs, 2 post-masters programs, and 1 post baccalaureate certification program. Consistent with the state of New Jersey’s requirement for certification, all special education programs are non-categorical.

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in special education or related field (A.B.D. will be considered), appropriate teaching experience in P-12 schools, a well-developed program of research, and demonstrated skills in working collaboratively with colleagues in various disciplines. Required areas of expertise are inclusive education practices, creating and maintaining collaborative relationships with families and school personnel, and positive behavior supports. Additional expertise in one or more of the following areas is desired: early childhood/special education, urban education, disability studies, assistive technology, blended learning, and/or qualitative research.
