UN Report Calls US Government to Stop Electric Shock

TASH and the APRAIS coalition sent a letter to the Centers for Medicaid and Medicare Services and to the Department of Education requesting that federal funding of student placement at the Judge Rotenberg Center be discontinued. (View that letter here) Since that time, the Boston Globe reported that CMS will no longer be approving funding for any individual served in a facility using GED devices, whether or not they are they are subjected to those devices. The UN Special Rapporteur on Torture has now released his damaging report on JRC.

Juan Méndez, the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture, provided his report to the United Nations in Geneva. The report calls out the United States, saying the federal government must bring an end to the use of electric skin shocks and restraint at the Judge Rotenberg Center.
