Position Summary
Special and Inclusive Education programs within the School of Teaching and Learning at one of the nation’s most beautiful and dynamic universities is recruiting a 9-month fixed-term instructor. Anticipated start date is August 2019 with work continuing through May 2020.
In a program that highly values collaboration and diversity, the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in the graduate special education and undergraduate inclusive education programs; have strong computer skills, online teaching experience and interest in learning new technology skills; have knowledge and/or experience with internship supervision; and show interest in research. In addition, the successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to teach 4 courses per term, in both on campus and online formats which vary from term to term.
The successful candidate will provide local and state service to the program, public schools and profession. Consistent participation in on-campus responsibilities is expected.
Preference will be given to candidates who can show collaboration across disciplines, contribute to the department’s multicultural and diversity goals, and successfully partner with in-service teachers in public school settings.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position
The successful candidate will teach graduate special education and undergraduate inclusive education courses in the area of mild to moderate as well as severe disabilities. The candidate may also supervise interns within the special and inclusive education programs.
Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate should document: a masters degree in special education from an accredited institution; licensure in both general and/or adapted curriculum; expertise in and experience working with children and youth with mild to moderate disabilities and/or those with severe disabilities. Candidates will need experience in teacher preparation and/or teaching college courses in on site and/or online formats. Eligibility for North Carolina licensure in exceptional education, general curriculum and adapted curriculum, as well as a minimum of three years of proficient public school instructional experience is required.
Preferred Qualifications
Preference will be given to doctoral candidates who are dually licensed in general curriculum and adapted curriculum; have experience teaching at the college level in onsite and online formats, have experience teaching courses in general curriculum and adapted curriculum content; and supervising interns.
The successful candidate also should demonstrate potential for strong service to the program through onsite participation in faculty meetings, committee work as needed, and ongoing student support.
